Overturned school bus causing major delays on I-77 South in Chester County, injuries unknown ...Middle East

CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A school bus carrying students overturned on Interstate-77 southbound Thursday. SC Highway Patrol and the Chester County Sheriff's Office are urging drivers to steer near Exit 55 as emergency crews respond to the serious accident.

The collision, which happened Thursday afternoon, April 17, has brought traffic to a standstill and is expected to cause extended delays.

Officials said the interstate will remain blocked for some time as the South Carolina Highway Patrol begins its investigation and first responders assess the scene.

In a 3:25 p.m. Thursday update, it was confirmed that the school bus involved in the crash belonged to Lexington County School District Two. The bus was part of a group of three district buses returning from a school field trip just outside of Charlotte.

There’s no word yet on injuries or the number of students involved, but authorities from both the SC Highway Patrol and the Chester County Sheriff's Office are managing the situation.
