LONG BEACH — A man was fatally shot in downtown Long Beach on Saturday, close to the area where the Grand Prix of Long Beach was taking place.
The shooting was reported just before 6 p.m. Saturday near the 0 block of Cedar Walk, broadcast reports said.
That’s north of Seaside Way, which was closed for the investigation, and west of Pacific Avenue.
Responding officers located a man suffering from gunshot wounds and transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Information on the identity of the victim was not immediately available and there was no immediate information on a suspect or suspects.
Long Beach Police Department homicide detectives were investigating.
Grand Prix preliminary events, in the venue southeast of the shooting, were underway at the time of the shooting.
