“Art Under Twenty” 2025 is coming up! Opening reception for the artists is Friday, April 4 from 3-7 p.m. at the Willits Center for the Arts, 111 E. Commercial St.
Artists from Willits High School, Willits Charter School and Potter Valley High School will show their work in the downstairs galleries. On display you’ll enjoy drawings, paintings, mixed media artworks, woodworking and metal. Our poster art this year was created by junior Monica Chavez. It is a skilled and meticulous graphite portrait of her lovely grandmother.
As a special treat, we’re pleased to welcome alumni artists: Velvet Bandit, Danza Davis, Issac Frankel, Maya Joy Griffin, Diza Hope, Crystal Kamaroff, Anne McGratten, Ellie Miller, Holly Madrigal, Malakai Shindel, Martin Wattenburger, Meghan White and Noel Woodhouse to our show. They will present their work in the Grand Gallery upstairs.
This year’s show is dedicated to Kathleen Kirkpatrick, WHS Emerita. We wanted to honor Kathleen, who has recently passed, by inviting her former students to show their work. Kathleen was a passionate and dedicated visual arts educator (and my mentor) who taught at WHS for 25 years! She started Art Under Twenty in 2000. For years, she searched for a place where her students could show their work but nothing was quite right until the Willits Center for the Arts opened their doors and serendipitously AU20 was born. Kathleen’s dream came true and now we’re about to celebrate our 26th year. Wow!…It’s truly hard to believe. Art Under 20 is the longest running, most attended show at the WCA.
It’s sure to be a great show and a night to remember. Come and join us as we celebrate the talent and creativity of our young artists as well as the skill and expertise of our alumni.
