It’s Day 52 of the Chicago Bears offseason. The 20th-anniversary re-release of “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith” dropping on NFL Draft weekend is perfect for me. One of Ben Johnson’s former co-workers in Detroit had nothing but love for the new Bears head coach. Aaron Glenn, who is the new head boss for the New York Jets, spoke glowingly about Johnson:

“He’s a very, very smart man,” Glenn said, via 670 The Score. “He knows offense inside and out. Now, the other good thing about Ben is he knows defense also. So, for him to get a chance to attack teams, that’s one thing he looks at quite a bit, is a defense and how they maneuver with receiver motions and things that. Listen, that’s going to continue to be a tough division that he’s in. All four of those teams are good teams in that division. I look forward to seeing how he operates there.”

Dan Campbell, Johnson’s former boss, had this to say (via Marquee) about the new Bears head coach: “He does not lack ideas, ever. He’s very creative in that regard. Hearing Bears GM Ryan Poles say that the Bears have improved in the “football IQ” department felt telling. I’ll say this about Ben Johnson: The new Bears head coach provides informative, enlightening, and clear answers to questions. It is a breath of fresh air from what we saw throughout the Matt Eberflus regime. Admittedly, I am surprised. I had no idea what to expect from Johnson. After all, it’s not like we were obsessively watching Lions OC press conferences. But Johnson seems more polished than what I was expecting. Pleasant surprises are my favorite. I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling that way. Jason Lieser (Sun-Times) writes that the new Bears head coach is quickly proving he is an upgrade over the old one. Confession: I couldn’t stop giggling when I heard Ben Johnson refer to D’Andre Swift as “Swifty.” Or is it “Swiftie”? I should know this and that I don’t is going to hurt my street cred in the Swiftie/Swifty community of Bears fans, which I don’t imagine is a large group — but you’d be surprised. Griese had spent the last three seasons as the Niners’ quarterbacks coach. Maybe Griese will return to the broadcast booth, where I thought he was superb at calling college football games. Or perhaps he parlays his three-year run tutoring Brock Purdy into another NFL coaching gig. (Pro Football Talk)
