San Diego is helping get the gas turned back on in LA.
San Diego Gas & Electric is stepping up to aid its Los Angeles counterpart amid the devastating Eaton and Palisades fires.
SoCalGas, a natural gas distribution utility and a counterpart to SDG&E in Los Angeles County, has requested aid helping re-light habitable homes in the Pacific Palisades area, where the Palisades Fire has raged for days.
In response to the request, SDG&E has dispatched a 25-person crew for a 5- to 7-day mission, which may be extended based on local needs.
Later efforts will possibly expand to those affected by the deadly, destructive Eaton Fire in the Altadena area.
The crew includes a field commander, emergency managers, safety representatives, customer service field managers and supervisors, and 19 customer service field appliances and service technicians. A six-person advance team was sent Sunday night.
Los Angeles County has been ravaged by wildfires since last week, which were exacerbated by hurricane-force Santa Ana winds and low humidity. Fire crews have made some progress, but hot and dry winds are expected to return to the region this week.
