Against a 31st-ranked Colts run defense, the Texans will continue to test whether Indianapolis can slow down Mixon. The Colts expect All-Pro defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to return from injury this week to provide a lift inside.
Reliable running would help Houston after a poor game from quarterback C.J. Stroud (10-of-21, 86 passing yards) during Week 7’s loss to Green Bay. Stroud played well against Indianapolis in all three of his previous matchups. But the Texans are without sidelined star wideout — and noted Colts killer — Nico Collins.
Richardson chose to pull himself out for one play, and Flacco came in. However, he returned immediately after. McAfee may have a point in that Richardson pulling himself might appear as if he is not fighting, but the young signal-caller might have also needed some oxygen.
Either way, the situation is certainly a rarity and one that could come back in a very negative way towards Richardson.
If Diggs is sidelined for a significant amount of time, rookie receiver Tank Dell will likely become the go-to option in the passing attack until Collins returns. Collins, who previously led the NFL in receiving yards, is progressing well and should be back for Sunday Night Football’s matchup against the Detroit Lions. The Texans will also look to John Metchie III, and Robert Woods to take on larger roles in their absence.
