James Madison Falls to Duke 93-55

On a chilly winter evening, the James Madison University basketball team faced off against the powerhouse Duke Blue Devils in a highly anticipated matchup. Despite their best efforts, the underdog James Madison team was no match for the skill and experience of the Duke players.

From the opening tip-off, it was clear that Duke had come to dominate. Their precision passing and sharp shooting left James Madison scrambling to keep up. The Blue Devils' defense was relentless, forcing turnovers and converting them into easy baskets on the other end.

No. 4 seed Duke improved to 26-8 and advances to Dallas for the South Region semifinal to face the winner of Sunday night's game matching No. 1 Houston vs. No. 9 Texas A&M in Memphis. No. 12 seed JMU concludes its historic season with a school record for wins at 32-4, having reached the NCAA Second Round for the fourth time in program history.   McCain's 30 points were the most against JMU in an NCAA game. He went 8-for-11 from the arc, including hitting his first six tries in the first half. His eight treys were second most by a freshman in NCAA history. As a team, Duke struck for a season high with 14 made threes on 52 percent shooting from outside.

Head coach Jon Scheyer said Saturday that a stadium full of booing doesn’t sound all that different from a stadium full of fans. Maybe he’s taught his team the trick.

James Madison wraps its season at 32-4. Terrence Edwards, Jr.'s 13 points and T.J. Bickerstaff's 11 points paced the Dukes.

Duke will next travel to Dallas for the Sweet 16. The Blue Devils will play the Round of 32 winner between No. 1 Houston and No. 9 Texas A&M.

In fact, it’s bound to the lowest point, period. But they accomplished quite a bit and had a terrific season. It’d be a shame if they judged it by this one game.

Duke now moves on into the Sweet Sixteen, where they’ll play the winner of the Houston-Texas A&M game. If it’s A&M, we’ll see former Blue Devil Henry Coleman. And if it’s Houston, Duke will get a major test indeed.
