Isaiah Thomas Agree to 10-Day Contract after G-League Stint

After a brief stint in the G-league, Isaiah Thomas has agreed to a 10-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. This move comes as no surprise to fans of the talented point guard, who has been working tirelessly to make his way back into the NBA after dealing with injuries and setbacks.

Thomas' determination and perseverance have been evident throughout his career, and this latest opportunity is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the game he loves. Despite facing challenges along the way, Thomas has never lost sight of his goal of returning to the highest level of basketball.

The 5-foot-9 Thomas played 46 games for Phoenix in 2014-15 and finished fifth in MVP voting as a member of the Boston Celtics two seasons later.

Phoenix traded Thomas at the 2015 trade deadline to Boston, part of a three-team trade that brought back Marcus Thornton and a first-round draft pick that the Suns would later deal in the Marquese Chriss acquisition. Thornton played in just nine games with the Suns.

Thomas made his most recent NBA appearance for the Charlotte Hornets in April 2022. He played 17 games for the Hornets, averaging 8.3 points in 12.9 minutes per game. His time in Charlotte marked the end of a string of 22 games that saw him also play for the Los Angeles Lakers, and Dallas Mavericks. All three of those stints began with separate 10-day contracts.

Thomas will get a chance to compete for a bigger role on a Suns team that has high aspirations. Phoenix is 39-28 and currently sits in seventh place in the Western Conference. This means it would contend in the play-in tournament, so the Suns hope Thomas can provide a spark and lead the team to a more prominent position in the standings.

He was an incredibly dynamic scorer and shotmaker in his athletic prime, and one of the most riveting watches across the entire league. The Phoenix Suns, led by All-Stars Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal (fine, the injury-prone Beal is really a former All-Star, but when healthy he's still pretty lethal playing off Durant and Booker), are currently the seventh seed in the Western Conference with a 39-28 record. Phoenix is just fractions of a percentage point behind the 38-27 Sacramento Kings for the conference's sixth seed, however (and an opportunity to skip the play-in tournament). The team has a pretty decent shot of rising as high as the West's fifth seed, currently occupied by the 40-26 New Orleans Pelicans (just 1.5 games ahead of the Suns).
