France have made a huge call on the men’s medley relay, which will be the final event in Paris this year, putting Leon Marchand on the butterfly leg instead of 2025 world champion Maxime Grousset, who is the #2 relay performer in history at 49.27, with Grousset shifting to the freestyle leg.

It felt like we would see Marchand on this relay in some form, despite not being able to slot in on breaststroke as he has done in the last three years due to an adductor injury. However, after a 1:43.76 leading off the men’s 4×200 free relay, the thought was that he would be on the anchor leg.

Instead, the 200 fly European champion will swim the fly leg. His lifetime best is a 51.20 from the U.S. Open Championships in December, and he split 51.50 for France at the 2022 World Championships. If he can be down near 50-flat, France could win gold here.

Yohan Ndoye-Brouard and Carl Aitkaci will be the front half of the relay, with Ndoye-Brouard winning 100 back bronze last year in Singapore. Aitkaci split 59.05 on the mixed medley relay as France won gold, using Grousset on fly in that relay,

Great Britain keep Ollie Morgan on backstroke even as he missed the individual semi-finals, and bring in Adam Ramsay-Peaty and Matt Richards. Italy swap in Alberto Razzetti on fly and world record holder Thomas Ceccon on backstroke to join Nicolo Martinoenghi and Carlos D’Ambrosio.

Neutral Athletes B lead off with Kliment Kolesnikov, who is the only one of the three NAB men under 53 seconds here who is not swimming the individual final tonight. Ivan Kozhakin takes over breaststroke duties in a final for the first time, with Andrei Minakov and Egor Kornev on the back half.

Germany, Spain, Denmark, and Switzerland all keep the same quartets that swam this morning.
