In a thrilling match between Miami and D.C. United, it was Luis Suárez who stole the show with a brilliant brace to secure a 3-1 victory for Miami. The Uruguayan striker showcased his world-class talent with two clinical finishes that left the D.C. defense in shambles.
Suárez's first goal came in the 25th minute, as he expertly controlled a cross from his teammate before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper with ease. His second goal was even more impressive, as he danced past multiple defenders before unleashing a powerful shot into the top corner of the net.
Luis Suárez, the 37-year-old Uruguayan striker who joined his friend Messi in Major League Soccer, scored two goals in 23 minutes off the bench to help Inter Miami snag a 3-1 victory against D.C. United at Audi Field.
Suárez entered the match as a substitute in the 62nd minute, and found the back of the net in 10 minutes. He secured a brace with a goal in the 85th minute to seal Inter Miami’s victory.
“He had about 30 minutes in the game, and he defined the game,” Inter Miami coach Tata Martino said of Suárez, whose tear in MLS continues with six goals with five assists in seven games across all competitions.
D.C. benefited from crisp passing to open the scoring in the 14th minute. Stroud, who was stationed between Miami's Noah Allen and Nicolas Freire, got in behind the duo and unleashed a blast that sailed past Callender for his first goal of the season.
Campana answered 10 minutes later after initially being denied from close range on a header. The Ecuadorean striker benefited from defender Federico Redondo keeping the ball in play while on his back before providing a proper finish with a left-footed shot from the center of the box. The goal was Campana's second in as many MLS matches.
Notably, Messi was still part of the conversation in absentia. Multiple reporters pressed Martino for further details about the “overload” in his right leg that led to an early exit from Wednesday’s CCC win, wondering whether it could affect the GOAT’s availability for Argentina’s upcoming international friendlies in Philadelphia and Los Angeles.
“Messi's injury must be dealt with week by week, and we will evaluate it. What is clear is that there is a goal with him, which is to play in the Concacaf quarterfinals [vs. CF Monterrey on April 3 and 10],” said Martino, himself a former Argentina manager.
