ACC championship game: NC State beats No. 4 North Carolina

The ACC Championship Game between NC State and No. 4 North Carolina was a thrilling match that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very end. The Wolfpack came out strong, taking an early lead and maintaining their momentum throughout the game. Their defense was relentless, shutting down North Carolina's offense and forcing turnovers that led to crucial points on the board.

Despite a valiant effort from the Tar Heels, they were unable to overcome NC State's dominant performance. The Wolfpack's star players stepped up when it mattered most, making key plays and sinking clutch shots to secure the victory.

  1. State caps a miraculous ACC Tournament run by defeating Carolina, 84-76. That's a generational win for a State program that has struggled to have anything good happen for decades.

NC State (22-14), which won its first ACC crown since 1987, leaned on big-time performances from DJ Horne and DJ Burns with an impressive second-half showing against the Tar Heels (27-7). The Wolfpack beat Louisville, Syracuse, Duke, Virginia and UNC to claim its 11th ACC Tournament title.

The Wolfpack had a double-digit advantage against UNC in the second half. Here’s what stood out in NC State’s title-clinching victory.

UNC (27-7) likely shored up a top seed for March Madness by reaching the final with a rout of Florida State, then getting a starring performance from Davis to beat Pitt in the semifinals. Davis, Armando Bacot and their teammates won the ACC regular-season title but went cold down the stretch on Saturday, missing 12 consecutive shots down the stretch.

The fatigue of playing a fifth game in as many days, including overtime in the semifinals against Virginia, was noticeable at times. But N.C. State muscled through it, with plenty of bulk inside from Burns, a 6-foot-9, 260-pound fifth-year senior.

In the end, NC State emerged victorious with a final score of 78-72, claiming their first ACC Championship title in over a decade. It was a memorable game that showcased the talent and determination of both teams, but ultimately it was NC State who reigned supreme on this historic night.
