We’re On Kyle Monangai Injury Watch

We will follow the Kyle Monangai injury news with great interest for obvious reasons.

Here are some updates from the Bears beat with Zack Pearson and Brad Biggs, as well as a nugget from ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

During today's practice, RB Kyle Monangai appeared to injure his right knee. He and Grady Jarrett got tangeled up on a play and both went to the ground. Monangai left with a trainer. #Bears

Kyle Monangai’s Injury Status Is Something to Monitor

Kyle Monangai was one of the Bears’ most valuable players in 2025. The Rutgers product finished his rookie season with 783 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 169 carries. He also chipped in with 26 touches (21 carries, 5 catches) and 121 scrimmage yards in the team’s two postseason games back in January. Monangai became a fan favorite for his punishing running style, which made him a staple on the Angry Runs segment that airs on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” program.

Expectations are high for Monangai as he enters Year 2 with the Bears. The tandem he forms with D’Andre Swift is expected to be one of the best in the league. On an individual level, Monangai’s efforts as a rookie have him on the cusp of being one of the league’s best backs. If he can round out his game by improving his pass-blocking, route-running, and pass-catching out of the backfield, then Monangai could be a bigger force to be reckoned with than he was last year. Unfortunately, the injury bug has limited his practice time this summer. Hopefully, this new injury won’t slow him down any further.

The running game is expected to be a strength of the 2026 Bears, just as it was for the 2025 team. And a healthy Kyle Monangai is a big piece of that puzzle. But should Chicago’s other top ball carrier be unavailable for an extended time, at least the team will have some time in the preseason to see who the next man up should be. Maybe Roschon Johnson could take advantage of reps that would become available if Monangai misses time. Perhaps Brittain Brown, Salvon Ahmed, and Coleman Bennett can make the most of additional opportunities.

This is an injury we will continue to check in on and share updates as they become available. Hopefully, we will get some good news sooner rather than later.
