The Mega Millions lottery jackpot has reached an astonishing $815 million, causing a frenzy of excitement and anticipation among hopeful players across the country. With such a staggering sum at stake, dreams of financial freedom and luxury are dancing in the minds of millions who have purchased their tickets in hopes of striking it rich.
As the winning numbers are drawn, hearts race and fingers are crossed as players eagerly check their tickets to see if they hold the key to untold riches. The possibility of becoming an instant multimillionaire is a tantalizing prospect that has captured the imagination of all who have dared to dream big.
The jackpot was last won on Dec. 8 when two California tickets sold at same location split $394 million Mega Millions jackpot.
Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot is at $600 million with a cash option of $285.9 million, according to the Powerball website.
The next drawing will take place Tuesday night. There has not been a jackpot winner since Dec. 8.
Friday's jackpot would have been the sixth-largest in the game's history, with the top five all north of one billion dollars.
A single-winning ticket in Friday's jackpot would have come with the choice of whether to receive either a one-time lump-sum payment of about $385 million in cash before taxes, or go with an annuity, which consists of annual payments over 30 years.
The largest Mega Millions jackpot prize ever won was a $1.6 billion prize claimed on Aug. 8, 2023 in Neptune Beach, Florida.
The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350, according to Mega Millions.
Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets are $2 for one play.
The winning numbers for Friday, March 15 were 50, 13, 66, 51 and 25 with a Mega Ball of 6. The Megaplier was 5X.
There was no grand prize winner, but there were Match 5 winners worth $1 million each in Massachusetts and North Carolina.
The next drawing will be Friday, March 15, at 11 p.m. ET.
Mega Millions drawings are held two times a week, every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. ET.
"This helps protect winners’ lifestyle and purchasing power in periods of inflation," according to the Mega Millions website.
The cash option is a one-time, lump-sum payment that is equal to all the cash in the Mega Millions jackpot prize pool.
If two or more people win the jackpot in the same drawing, the money is shared equally among all winning tickets.
