Helena Rosendahl Bach won women’s 200 fly silver in a new national record, Nikita Sheremet took gold in the men’s 50 free in a new national record, and Andrej Barna also set a national record for Serbia as he took silver in that same race.
Spain joined in making the medal table for the first time, but won two medals – Hugo Gonzalez‘s silver in the 200 IM and Laura Cabanes Garzas‘ bronze in the 200 fly.
Great Britain topped the final medal table as they won two golds on day 7, both of them thanks to Keanna MacInnes. She won the 200 fly in a new Scottish record of 2:05.90, and then swam the fly leg as Great Britain won the women’s 4×100 medley relay by a tenth of a second over Italy.
That was a crucial tenth, as if Italy had won then they would have topped the medal table instead, tied on seven golds but with a healthier tally of silver and bronze medals.
Great Britain have made the most of the relays this week, with half of their medals coming in those events. They won all three 4×200 free relays this week and added the women’s 4×100 medley relay title tonight.
Italy missed out on two individual gold medals tonight by 0.01 seconds, with Benedetta Pilato taking silver in the 50 breast and Thomas Ceccon finishing behind Greece’s Apostolos Christou in the 100 back. That was Greece’s first gold of the week, and gives them one of each color after Apostolos Siskos‘ 200 back silver and 200 fly bronze. They move up to 11th in the medal table.
Italy did get the gold medal they needed to move above Neutral Athletes B from Simona Quadarella in the women’s 400 free, as the Neutral athletes came away with one gold medal and three bronze medals from tonight.
France got a gold from Leon Marchand in the men’s 400 free and bronze in the men’s medley relay by just 0.08 seconds, finishing ahead of Hungary thanks to that bronze. Hungary had an unexpected silver from Oliver Papai in the 400 free to go with their expected gold for Kos in the 200 IM.
Ireland added a 5th medal to cement themselves in 8th, a fantastic return for them. Mona McSharry won medals in all three breaststroke events, with Ellen Walshe doing the IM double.
Germany went 2-3 in a women’s distance free event for the third time, and Lukas Martens could only manage bronze in the men’s 400 free. Ruta Meilutyte won a gold for Lithuania to add to the silver Tomas Navikonis won in the 200 free on day 5, moving them up to 14th.
