Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Freestyle specialist Joao Bodemeier has announced his verbal commitment to swim for Louisiana State University beginning in the fall of 2027. The Brazilian swimmer is from Americana, where he trains with Natação Americana and excels at all distances of freestyle.

“I’m really excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Louisiana State University! First, I want to thank God because none of these would be possible without him, my team Natação americana, Fabio Cremonez, all my coaches, and everyone who has supported me throughout this journey in Brazil, especially my family, for always being there for me. A special thank you to Coach Alex for guiding me and helping me through this process. I also want to thank Coach Pace for believing in my potential, as well as Jon, Rick, and everyone on the LSU staff for this amazing opportunity. GEAUX TIGERS!!!”

At the 2025 Brazilian Open Swimming Championship (LCM) in December, Bodemeier turned in a series of strong performances, earning a second swim in two events. He placed 9th in the 200 free in 1:52.98 after setting a best time of 1:52.20 during prelims, and he finished 20th in the 400 free (4:01.66 – PB), 30th in the 1500 free (16:41.45), 34th in the 800 free (8:39.39) and 50th in the 100 free (52.85).

Bodemeier posted another series of top swims at the 2026 Brazilian National Swimming Championship (LCM) in May, where he contested the 200 free (1:51.09) and 400 free (3:57.39), setting lifetime best times in both events.

A few weeks later, Bodemeier continued to improve his times at the Brazilian Winter Junior Championship (LCM). He took 2nd in the 200 free (1:50.13), 4th in the 400 free (3:57.27), 9th in the 800 free (8:21.78) and 10th in the 100 free (51.65), clocking personal best times in each.

Best Times LCM (SCY Conversion):

100 free – 51.65 (45.09) 200 free – 1:50.13 (1:36.33) 400/500 free – 3:57.27 (4:25.84) 800/1000 free – 8:21.78 (9:22.21) 1500/1650 free – 16:29.49 (16:10.08)

A Division I program, LSU competes in the Southeastern Conference, with the men placing 7th at last season’s conference championships before sending seven athletes to compete at the 2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Championship, where they finished 16th overall. To earn a second swim at the 2026 SEC Championships, it took times of 42.95/1:34.48/4:20.84 in the 100/200/500 free, putting Bodemeier outside the cutoff in each of his top events.

On the team itself, Bodemeier would have ranked 5th in the 200 free, 6th in the 1000 free and 7th in the 500 free last season with his converted times, putting him in a position to bring added depth to the Tigers. With two of LSU’s top freestylers, Jere Hribar and Jovan Lekic, set to graduate after this season, Bodemeier will help fill the gaps left behind heading into the 2027-2028 season.

Currently set to join Bodemeier in Baton Rouge in the fall are Mykolas Tuskenis and Kyle Burk, both of whom should make for strong training partners over the next four years.
