UNC earned two dominant wins against Syracuse and Boston College during the weekend at Carmichael Arena, not dropping a single set between the two matches.
It was one-way traffic in the first two sets against the Orange Friday, as UNC outscored Syracuse 50-22 across the two frames. In the first, an 11-1 Tar Heel run turned a 9-8 lead into a 20-9 lead, and Carolina cruised from there. UNC never trailed in the second, winning it by an identical 25-11 score.
Syracuse led for most of the early portion of the third set and tied it at 19-19 before Carolina made its move, winning six of the next seven points to take the set 25-20 and the match in a sweep. Safi Hampton, Jackie Taylor and Addison West all tied for the team lead with seven kills apiece, and Taylor added a team-high eight blocks.

Sunday’s match against Boston College played out in much the same way. The Tar Heels were firmly in control through the first two sets, winning 25-13 in the first and 25-10 in the second to move within a set of another sweep.
Boston College would not go quietly, leading by as many as six points at 13-7 midway through the third set and holding that lead as late as 18-17, but by then momentum had turned in the Tar Heels’ favor. After a media timeout halted action with the Eagles leading 15-10, UNC won 11 of the next 14 points to take a 21-18 lead and force a BC timeout. The Eagles closed the gap to 23-21 before Carolina won the final two points to clinch the sweep. Bridget Malone, playing in her first match since Sep. 27 after returning from an injury, registered UNC’s final two kills of the match.

The two wins improve UNC to 16-4 overall and 11-1 in ACC play. The Tar Heels have won four matches in a row and are still unbeaten in Carmichael Arena at 9-0. Up next is a difficult road trip for Carolina, which starts with a visit to No. 5 SMU in Dallas Friday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. Eastern time.
