Costco shoppers are saying goodbye to a warehouse that has been around for nearly four decades. But there’s good news for members: the retailer isn’t leaving town. Instead, it’s preparing to open a bigger location with several upgrades and a few surprises planned for opening day.
The Costco warehouse in Vallejo, California, which opened in December 1989, will close when its replacement opens on Friday, November 6, 2026. According to Costco’s official website, the new warehouse will be located at 860 Admiral Callaghan Lane, less than a mile from the existing store at 198 Plaza Drive.
The move involves much more than a change of address. The new location will cover approximately 152,000 square feet, making it about 20,000 square feet larger than the original warehouse. Shoppers can also expect more parking spaces, an expanded gas station and electric vehicle charging stations.
According to KTVU FOX 2, the new gas station will have 30 pumps, compared with 16 at the current location. The warehouse will also offer familiar Costco services, including a pharmacy, optical department, hearing aid center, tire services and a food court.
But there’s another reason members might want to visit on opening day. Costco Bay Area regional marketing manager Maegan Galang told KTVU that the company plans to bring in special merchandise that isn’t typically available at its warehouses. “We will get all the spice items during the opening, items we don’t normally carry,” Galang said.
She explained that previous grand openings have featured limited quantities of luxury merchandise, including designer goods. However, she couldn’t confirm which special items would be available at the new Vallejo location. Shoppers will have to wait until opening day to find out.
There is also an incentive for new members. According to Costco, eligible shoppers who sign up for a membership with automatic renewal before December 6 can receive a $20 Digital Costco Shop Card with a Gold Star membership or a $40 card with an Executive membership.
The new warehouse will be part of Fairview Plaza, a development that will eventually include other businesses and residential properties.
For longtime customers, the November closure marks the end of an era. But with a larger store, expanded services and special opening-day merchandise, Costco is giving members plenty of reasons to visit its replacement.
