Taylor Sheridan has made a career out of bringing the American West into our living rooms. Lately, he’s been giving fans a reason to leave the couch for dinner.
The Yellowstone creator recently made headlines with plans to bring Four Sixes Ranch Steakhouse to MGM Grand in Las Vegas. But back in the Lone Star State, one historic restaurant already offers a taste of his world—and the entree he keeps coming back for.
Cattlemen’s Steakhouse has been serving the Fort Worth Stockyards since 1947, long before anyone was keeping up with the Dutton family. Now co-owned by Sheridan and business partners David Glasser and Dan Schryer, the restaurant has undergone a substantial renovation while holding onto its Western roots.

His preferred dinner fits the setting: a triple-seared tomahawk steak paired with red wine, according to executive chef Theodore Tom.
“He always wants it,” Tom told Cowboys & Indians.
The preparation involves more than a generous pour into the chef’s glass. After an initial sear, the steak gets dipped in Four Sixes Whiskey, seared again, then dipped in whiskey-barrel-aged shoyu soy sauce before returning to the grill.
There is one catch before fans start making reservations: that particular preparation belongs to the downstairs, members-only Cattlemen’s Club. Tom said it occasionally appears among the public restaurant’s specials, so don’t assume Sheridan’s exact order will be available.
The restaurant separately showcases a Texas-sized 32-ounce dry-aged tomahawk chop, offering plenty of reason to arrive hungry.

For those more interested in the scenery than the sear, the makeover includes polished wood, chandeliers and a covered wagon prop from Sheridan’s 1883. Outside, a patio with a music stage and rocking chairs by the fireplace gives diners somewhere to linger.
And the Western atmosphere continues beyond the restaurant at 2458 N. Main St.
The surrounding Stockyards host the Fort Worth Herd’s twice-daily cattle drive, with Texas Longhorns passing along East Exchange Avenue at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., weather permitting. Holiday exceptions and cancellations are worth checking before heading over.
Time it around dinner, and you can work a little sightseeing into the outing before settling in for steak and red wine. Whether you’ve earned the appetite of a ranch hand is between you and your waiter.

Fort Worth is no stranger to star power, either. From old-school honky-tonks like Billy Bob’s Texas to the 14,000-seat Dickies Arena, which has welcomed performers including Joe Rogan and George Strait, the city gives visitors plenty of reasons to stick around after dinner.
Even the Stockyards have screen credits, having served as a filming location for Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel, 1883.
