Former SEC QB reportedly benched by Arizona State ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

The Arizona State Sun Devils entered the 2026 season looking to bounce back after a disappointing 8-5 finish in 2025, handing the keys to the offense over to former Kentucky Wildcats gunslinger Cutter Boley following the departure of Sam Leavitt.

Head coach Kenny Dillingham hoped Boley would spark the offense the way Leavitt did in 2024, but that unfortunately hasn’t been the case through ASU’s first 6 games, as Boley has struggled greatly against Big 12 defenses.

With the team’s record sitting at 3-3 after a blowout loss to Texas Tech this past Saturday, it looks like Dillingham has decided to make a change under center, with CBS Sports insider Matt Zenitz reporting on Wednesday that Boley has been benched in favor of backup Mikey Keene.

Arizona State is currently expected to make a QB change and start Mikey Keene against Kansas State on Saturday, sources tell @CBSSports.Cutter Boley has started ASU’s first six games. Keene took over for Boley at halftime against Texas Tech after a disastrous 2-interception performance by the former Kentucky signal caller allowed the Red Raiders to build a commanding 43-10 lead heading into the locker room.

The Sun Devils did show some life on offense in the second half with Keene under center, but the deficit would ultimately end up being too much to overcome as Texas Tech cruised to a 53-25 victory.

With their College Football Playoff hopes now essentially crushed, it looks like Dillingham and the rest of the ASU staff have decided the team is better off moving forward with Boley on the sideline.
