Glenn Close is addressing fans’ health concerns after her recent appearances in New York City.
“I wanted to just hop on and thank you for all of your love, and to explain why I have a cane,” Close, 79, said in a Tuesday, October 20, Instagram video. “I have a cane because I had a complete hip replacement. Found out that my left hip was in really bad shape and my whole thing right now is to keep myself in running order so that I can really leap into whatever challenges come my way.”
Close explained that she is “hobbling around on a cane” after undergoing the procedure, but hopes to travel to London later this month to celebrate the opening of the Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping and be back in the Big Apple to promote the second season of Ryan Murphy’s show All’s Fair.
“I hope to be fully present there, and maybe not running around going up mountains, but at least my good old self,” she said. “So, love to everyone. Don’t worry. I’m feeling great. I have my wonderful, wonderful family around me, and I look forward to all the adventures coming, so love to everyone.”

She captioned the post, “A needed explanation. My deep gratitude to Dr. Edwin Sue at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York for being a consummate physician in every way. Thank you for my new hip. ??.”
Earlier this month, Close was photographed using a cane at the La Bola Negra premiere in NYC during 2026 NewFest. Amid her busy schedule, Close took time to rest and recharge at home in August.
At the time, Close gave fans a glimpse of her scenery while posting a series of selfies to social media. (Close left New York for Montana in 2019 in an effort to create an enclave for her and her three siblings.)
“It’s ALL about LIGHT…and clean hair and a good night’s sleep. I am home to rest, regroup and fill my cup back up,” Close wrote via Instagram at the time. “My wonderful friend @jasondeshaw once told me that you don’t face the world with an empty cup, you face it with the overflow. Love to everyone.”
