No topic was off-limits during Sophia Bush’s appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
And that includes her whirlwind romance and marriage to former One Tree Hill co-star Chad Michael Murray, which she discussed at length for the first time.
Bush reflected on the relationship, which she also opens up about in her upcoming memoir, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress, explaining that she “was essentially dropped into my own rom-com.”
Host Alex Cooper alluded to longstanding cheating rumors surrounding Murray, which have followed the former couple since their split just five months after their April 2005 wedding. Their divorce was finalized in December 2006.
Bush prefaced her comments by making it clear that there were no hard feelings.
“We were kids, we’re all adults; we’re all parents. No harm, no foul. Wish you well. Praise the adult you are, hope it’s mutual,” she said.
The actress explained that revisiting this chapter of her life was important because it helped shape the person she became, also tying into a larger conversation about trusting your gut, listening to your intuition and recognizing that if you feel like “something is wrong, and everyone is telling you you’re crazy, you’re probably not crazy.”
Bush then made a surprising revelation, admitting that she has since become friends with several women “who the world would probably think I’d never speak to.”
“Are you saying that the people he was cheating on you with are your now…” Cooper asked, suggesting that some of those women were now among Bush’s friends.
“A couple,” Bush replied.
The actress explained that she genuinely cherishes those friendships, noting that when she looks at the women involved, they’re all “badass” and that she’s “in pretty decent company.”
“I know the adults we are are completely different people from who we were, but even the child I don’t relate to that he was, like, you did have kind of great taste, bro, and like congrats, you crushed,” she joked.
Cooper praised Bush for not blaming the women or allowing the situation to pit them against one another.
Bush continued to joke about Murray’s taste in women, adding, “I get it, I actually get it, and by the way, like, I’m open to all people, I get it, hot.”

Murray similarly reflected on their short-lived marriage in an interview with The Cut, acknowledging that he was just 23 at the time, while Bush was 22.
“I was a baby,” he said.
The former couple met on the set of One Tree Hill, where they played love interests Lucas Scott and Brooke Davis.
“I didn’t know up, down, left, right. You move out there and you go, ‘Well, what am I supposed to do now? Get married? That’s exciting!’” Murray continued.
Bush also addressed her current relationship with Ashlyn Harris during the podcast, calling rumors that their romance began as an affair “really dirty” and “ugly,” among other topics, like her toxic boss on One Tree Hill.
Meanwhile, Murray has since married actress Sarah Roemer, with whom he shares three children. The couple has largely kept their children’s names private.
