The Paramount+ psychological thriller Yellowjackets, which sees a group of high school soccer players crash into the Canadian wilderness and struggle to survive by making increasingly disturbing decisions, has been horrifying fans for years, and on Nov. 20, the show will return for its fourth and final season, bringing an end to the equal parts compelling and (wonderfully) grotesque story.
Although audiences have gotten to experience two periods in the show since its first season, with one narrative taking place when the girls are still stranded in the wilderness and the other taking place when they are adults, still living with the consequences of their actions while they were fighting for their lives, viewers have never gotten to see what the immediate aftermath of their return home looked like—and now, season 4 is about to change that.
As the teaser confirms, this upcoming season will finally show what it was like for the Yellowjackets survivors to try to find some semblance of normalcy when they return to their families, despite the fact that, while trapped in the wilderness, they had engaged in things like cannibalism and murder. The clips reveal the girls struggling to eat normal food or accept the idea that they are heroes, particularly in light of what they had to do to survive.
In addition to this harrowing return home, the final season will also need to wrap up the many loose ends that still exist in the narrative arc set during the survivors’ adulthood, from the multiple character deaths in season 3 (including, sadly, Lottie’s) to the fact that Shauna’s life is falling apart and she seems to be going to a darker place than ever.
There’s no doubt that audiences will be very sad to see the show go, but this teaser at least promises an action-packed, thrilling final season.
Yellowjackets premieres on Friday, Nov. 20, on Paramount+. Subscribers must have the premium plan to watch the show.
