Lewis recorded a career-high 11 tackles against the Panthers, as well as a tackle for loss and half a sack. The sophomore had never totaled more than seven tackles in a game prior to Saturday. Lewis has established himself as an All-ACC candidate through five games, leading the ACC with 6.5 sacks and ranking second in the league with 9.5 tackles for loss.
“He does a really good job of controlling his space, getting off blocks,” UNC head coach Bill Belichick said of Lewis. “He’s strong and active in the interior.”
This is the second time Lewis has been named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week. He also took home the honor after UNC’s 15-10 win against TCU in August.
Miller proved to be a game changer for UNC against Pitt, totaling four tackles, two pass breakups and his first career interception. Pro Football Focus gave Miller a grade of 91.0 (out of 100) in pass coverage and an 89.4 overall, both of which were game highs for either team. In addition to his ACC nod, Miller was also named to PFF’s National Team of the Week. This is the first time Miller, a redshirt junior from Birmingham, AL, has received either honor.
The Tar Heels will return to action this Saturday when they visit Duke at 3:30 p.m.
