Jianna Amores from Miami, Florida, has announced her intention to swim and study at the University of Tennessee beginning in the 2028-29 school year. She wrote on social media:
“I’m so so excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee!! I want to thank God for blessing me with so much and for placing so many amazing people in my life who have helped me throughout this process. A special thank you to my mom and dad for always sacrificing so much for me and to my family for supporting me every step of the way. Thank you Coach Ariel for always pushing me to become a better swimmer and for working so hard to help me get to where I am today. Thank you to my SSDL family @swimstrongdryland. Thank you to Coach Matt, Coach Sarah, and all of the coaches at UT for believing in me and giving me this incredible opportunity. I’m so grateful and honored to represent the University of Tennessee!! GO VOLS”
Amores is the #12-ranked swimmer on our Way Too Early list of top girls’ recruits from the high school class of 2028. A junior at Mater Lakes Academy, she swims year-round with South Florida Stallions and represents the Dominican Republic on the international stage.
In high school swimming, Amores won the 100 fly as a freshman at the 2024 FHSAA Class 2A State Championships. She was also runner-up in the 100 back, and she clocked PBs of 54.63 in the fly and 55.98 in the back. A year later, she defended her state title in the 100 fly with a PB of 52.58 and added a win in the 100 back with a PB of 55.35.
A month later, she improved on those times with a 51.78 in the final of the 100 fly, where she came in 2nd, and a 54.43 in prelims of the 100 back. She also competed in the 200 fly, notching a PB of 1:58.70 to place 17th in the final. At the Florida Gold Coast Championships in March, she won the 50 back (25.24) and was runner-up in the 50 fly (23.88) and 100 fly (52.68). Both 50s were lifetime bests.
In long course swimming this summer, Amores kicked off the season winning the 50/100/200 fly at Ocala Sectionals and taking home best times in the 50 fly (26.94), 200 fly (2:17.03), and 200 IM (2:21.00). Swimming for the Dominic Republic at the XXV Central American & Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Amores was runner-up in the 50 fly (26.41) and 3rd in the 100 fly (59.19), both Dominican National Records. She also owns the national marks in the 200 IM (2:21.00), women’s 4×100 free, women’s 4×200 free, women’s 4×100 medley, mixed 4×100 free, and mixed 4×100 medley.
Tennessee has become home away from home for many of the top Caribbean swimmers, including, most recently, Jordan Crooks, Jillian Crooks, Nikoli Blackman, and Lamar Taylor.
Amores will have an immediate impact on the Tennessee roster, with times that would score at SECs in the ‘A’ final of the 100 fly and the ‘C’ final of the 200 fly. Her 100 fly time was well under the NCAA qualifying standard for 2026.
Best SCY times:
100 fly – 51.78 200 fly – 1:58.70 100 back – 54.43 100 free – 50.35 50 free – 23.69 200 IM – 2:03.42If you have a commitment to report, please send an email with a photo (landscape, or horizontal, looks best) and a quote to Recruits@swimswam.com.
