Mondays are better when the Bears win. It’s a proven fact!
When I transitioned from my last year as a college student to my first year as a professional, I lived with a photographer who taught me about life, living, and sports photography. I open this set of BN Bears Bullets with that anecdote because the featured image above is the kind I was always inspired to get — a single snapshot that perfectly captured the game.BEARS WIN! I don’t think anything better represents what Sunday’s Bears-Jets game was all about than an image of wide receivers Rome Odunze and Kalif Raymond holding their blocks while running back Kyle Monangai breaks a tackle during a big gain. This is what Bears football is all about now. A 24-year-old first-round receiver, a 32-year-old wideout playing for his sixth team, and a seventh-round running back working together to make magic happen for their team. This is what it looks like when everyone pulls on the same side of the rope. The Bears are 2-0 in games started by backup quarterbacks this season. They have outscored their opponents 50-19 and outgained them 867-405. This is what domination looks like. Mandatory Credit: Matt Marton-Imagn Images What I liked most about quarterback Tyson Bagent’s Week 4 performance is that he didn’t try to play hero ball. It would have been easy (and understandable) for Bagent to use Sunday’s game against the Jets to put something on tape and showcase his skills to teams around the league who could be in the market for a quarterback next offseason. But he didn’t do that. Instead, Bagent played within the system and made smart, quick decisions. Sure, he threw three interceptions that were nullified because of penalties. Still, only one (the one tossed to a defensive lineman, giving me flashbacks to Caleb Hanie throwing it right into the belly of Packers DL B.J. Raji in the NFC Championship Game back in January 2011) was egregious to me. The others were when Bagent seemed to know he could take a shot. In any case, I’d like to see Bagent reel it in next week if he starts in Week 5. I’d like to use this space to (once again) bang the table for the Bears offensive line to get the NFC Offensive Player of the Week award. Kyle Monangai, D’Andre Swift, Roschon Johnson, and Luther Burden III ran it 50 times for 231 yards. That doesn’t happen without the big fellas up front. Theo Benedet, Joe Thuney, Garrett Bradbury, Jonah Jackson, and Darnell Wright deserve their flowers this week.CHECK OUT THE BN BEARS PODCAST: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
How about some love for the Bears defensive line? That group got contributions from everywhere in Sunday’s win against the Jets. These players were credited with at least one (1) splash play: Austin Booker (1 sack, 1 TFL, 2 QB Hits) Dayo Odeyingbo (1 sack, 1 TFL, 1 pass breakup) Montez Sweat (1 QB Hit) Jordan van den Berg (1 QB Hit) Neville Gallimore, Kentavius Street, Marcus Davenport, and Daniel Hardy also found ways to contribute and land on the stat sheet. Could this position group use some star power? Sure! I’ll never say no to adding a fresh face. But I like what the depth players are doing right now. Oct 4, 2026; Chicago, Illinois, USA; Chicago Bears defensive line Austin Booker (94) tackles New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith (7) during the second quarter at Soldier Field. Mandatory Credit: Mike Dinovo-Imagn Images It was nice to see Rome Odunze get active on Sunday, catching 6 passes for 94 yards. He was held out of the end zone, but if he keeps showing up as he did in Week 4, his time will come. My biggest takeaway from Odunze’s performance is how he looked when he caught the ball. He was confident and sure-handed. It hasn’t always been like that for Odunze the last two seasons, so it was nice to see that guy show up again. Luther Burden III in the last two games: 17 targets, 11 catches, 124 receiving yards, and 1 touchdown. It has been nice to see him get into a rhythm the last two weeks. Few players are more fun to watch with the ball in their hands than Burden. It is an absolute treat. Colston Loveland is getting into it, too. Loveland’s last two games: 13 targets, 10 catches, 89 receiving yards. These are modest numbers, but it feels like a night-and-day difference after opening the year with just 5 targets and 1 catch in his first two games. Usually, I’d have a snarky remark about Bears President Kevin Warren always finding his way to the middle of the room for the “Good, Better, Best” video. But if Warren (who has been misssing in action in recent stadium meetings) being front and center in the Bears locker room after a win means that the team is closer to a stadium deal, then by all means keep making it happen. This can be the football equivalent of jingling keys in front of your friend’s toddler while mom and dad take a breather in the other room. The Bears have three wins from three different starting quarterbacks. Everyone on the roster is contributing. Offense, defense, and special teams are chipping in. This isn’t a one-man-band show. Teamwork makes the dream work. A 3-1 start is everything we wanted, even if it doesn’t look exactly as we expected.
