Alex Daile from Cambridge, Massachusetts, has verbally committed to the admission process at the University of Pennsylvania for 2027-28. He told SwimSwam:
“I’m honored to announce my commitment to the admissions process for the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania! I want to thank my friends, my teammates at Crimson Aquatics, as well as Coach Jacob, Jen, and Emily for guiding me throughout my career. I’m also incredibly grateful to my parents—especially my mom—for being there for all the early mornings and meets. Lastly, a special thanks to Coach Mike, Coach Andrew, and Coach Emma for believing in me and for the opportunity to continue my academic and athletic career at UPenn. Go Quakers !! #fightonpenn”
Daile is a senior at The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. He swims year-round with Crimson Aquatics and specializes in butterfly. He had a breakout year as a junior in high school, which led us to consider him a “Best of the Rest” recruit on our most recent list of top boys’ swimmers from the high school class of 2027.
Daile kicked off his 2025-26 short-course season last fall with a number of PBs at various CRIM intrasquad meets. He went 24.44 in the 50 back and 52.44 in the 100 back in October, 46.33 in the 100 free, 4:49.66 in the 500 free, 51.74 in the 100 back, and 1:52.83 in the 200 IM in November, and 20.98 in the 50 free, 1:40.65 in the 200 free, and 47.72 in the 100 fly in December at Winter Juniors. He wrapped up at Ithaca Sectionals, where he won the 50 fly and 100 fly, was runner-up in the 200 fly, and placed 3rd in the 100 free, 8th in the 200 free, and 10th in the 100 back. He left the meet with new PBs in the 50 free (20.87), 100 free (45.24), 200 free (1:39.89), 100 back (51.05), 50 fly (21.96), and 100 fly (47.00).
This summer, Daile competed at both U.S. Nationals and Summer Junior Nationals. At the former, he lowered his butterfly times to 24.87/54.26/2:06.35. At the latter, he competed in the 50 free, 100 free, 50 fly, 100 fly, and 200 fly, finaling in the 50 fly (19th) and 100 fly (8th), and improving his PBs to 24.79 and 54.05 in the respective events.

50 fly – 21.96 100 fly – 47.00 200 fly – 1:47.58 50 free – 20.87 100 free – 45.24 200 free – 1:39.89Daile will join Alex Koo, Ben Liang, Eric Chen, Julian Willoughby, Lysander Mihaly, and Zaid Nazif on the Quakers’ roster next fall. His times would have scored in the ‘B’ final of the 100 fly and the ‘C’ final of the 200 free at the 2026 Ivy League Men’s Championship. It took 1:47.01 to get a second swim in the 200 fly and 20.05/44.02 to score in the sprint freestyle events.
*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
