Wade retired from international cricket in late 2024 but continued playing domestic cricket for Tasmania. He finished his BBL career with 119 matches across three teams and helped the Hobart Hurricanes win their maiden title in 2024-25. The wicketkeeper-batter spent nine seasons with the Hobart franchise.
Wade is third among the Hurricanes’ leading run-scorers, behind Ben McDermott and D’Arcy Short. His unbeaten 130 against Adelaide Strikers in BBL 2019-20 remains the highest individual score by a Hurricanes men’s player. He also played the second-most matches for the franchise, behind McDermott.
“Matthew has been an incredibly important figure for the Hurricanes and Tasmanian cricket over a long period of time,” Beams said in a statement. “His record speaks for itself, but what doesn’t always show up in the numbers is the influence he has had on the players and people around him.
