Heat advisory issued as feels-like temperatures near 105 degrees this week ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

The Chicago area is bracing for a late-summer heat wave, with heat index values as high as 105 degrees possible in the coming days.

A heat advisory is set to take effect from noon to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday for the following areas: LaSalle, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Will and southern Cook counties in Illinois, along with Lake, Porter, Newton and Jasper counties in Indiana.

According to the National Weather Service, peak heat index values of 100 to 105 degrees are expected both afternoons.

Ahead of the heat surge, temperatures were already running above average on Monday, with highs expected to reach the mid-to-upper 80s.

With dew points near 70 degrees, humidity will likely continue to build, NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Alicia Roman said. That will push heat index values, or “feels-like” temperatures, into the low 90s later on Monday before reaching the triple digits on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Actual air temperatures are expected to peak around 90 degrees on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

The NWS warns the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat-related illnesses. Precautions are recommended, including drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms and limiting time in the sun.
