PENFIELD, N.Y. — A former Penfield Central School District employee has been arraigned on rape and sexual abuse charges.
Peyton Pace appeared in Monroe County Court earlier this month to answer to his third-degree rape and three counts of sexual abuse charges. In a message to families after the arraignment, Penfield’s superintendent said Pace hasn’t been employed by the district since January. The message says the district is taking the situation seriously:
“I understand that when a school community learns about these types of situations, it can cause fear and concerns about student safety. I want to reassure you that as your Superintendent, I take any allegations of child harm very seriously, and the District will always be proactive in notifying and working with law enforcement and local agencies should we believe a child is in danger. If and when students bring any concerns of harm or inappropriate behavior, we believe them and act accordingly, always.”
The message says that, because of state and federal law, the district can’t share further details about the situation. The message also says resources are available if children or other campus community members want to ask for support. That includes Penfield’s Student Mental Health and Wellness team.
“We are a small community, and I know that news of this nature can be upsetting for students, employees, and families. We encourage students who may need support to reach out to our counselors, building leaders, and other trusted adults. Across the district, our doors are always open,” the message says.
Pace’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 29.
