Emotions will be flying high in Alabama’s matchup against Texas A&M on Saturday. The Crimson Tide is hoping to keep its chances of making the College Football Playoff alive, while the Aggies are looking to turn around a disappointing season in which they have a single SEC win.
In addition to the game’s dire implications for the losing team, the matchup will be significant for Texas A&M wide receiver Isaiah Horton, who will be returning to Tuscaloosa to play against his former team.
Texas A&M had the No. 3 transfer portal class in the country in 2026, and Horton was a significant member of that class. The Aggies have looked to him to make up for some of the lost production of wide receiver KC Concepcion, who was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Horton had far from a poor year with Alabama, totaling 511 yards and eight touchdowns on about 12 yards per catch. He was instrumental in the Crimson Tide’s Iron Bowl win that kept Alabama in the playoff picture, catching three touchdowns on five catches in that contest.
But Horton learned that quarterback Ty Simpson would be declaring for the NFL draft after the season, leaving Horton without one of his favorite teammates and reasons for coming to Tuscaloosa to begin with.
“He was my 7-on-7 quarterback when we were in high school, so when we were younger, we had that little chemistry,” Horton said of Simpson in April. “It’s kind of one of the reasons I came [to Alabama].”
Horton decided to enter the transfer portal following the season. On3 reported that he was supposedly offered a deal worth $1 million by Texas A&M.
Horton is averaging 40 yards per game for the Aggies, slightly more than the 34.1 he averaged with Alabama a year ago. He is on pace for fewer total touchdowns, with three on the year through seven games.
After essentially sharing the wide receiver three spot with Lotzeir Brooks in the back half of the 2025 season, Horton has picked up a larger role with Texas A&M. His 280 yards are the most of any of the Aggies’ receivers, and he is tied for the most receiving touchdowns on the team, with three.
Horton’s uptick in production has come despite overall struggles for the Aggies’ offense and quarterback Marcel Reed, who has the lowest passer rating of any starting quarterback in the SEC.
Transfers often have return games against their former teams circled on their calendars, and it won’t be surprising if Horton views his return to Tuscaloosa as an opportunity to put the college football world on notice with a stellar performance.
“Just coming in and being that experienced player,” Horton said of his role with the Aggies. “Just be a dominant force on the field and in the run game, my blocking, just be dominant.”
