Second-year wide receiver Luther Burden III has dominated the camp highlights among Bears pass-catchers during the first week at Halas Hall, but Colston Loveland made sure he got some top-shelf run in these spaces today, catching three touchdown passes during practice.
With fans in attendance today, video footage is floating around the internet of some of the highlights, something we haven’t seen yet this week. Here’s a video of Caleb Williams and Colston Loveland hooking up for a big chunk play (via @CalebIsHim on X):Caleb Williams with a perfect pass to Loveland pic.twitter.com/janxjaO1uN
— ?Sam (@CalebIsHim) July 31, 2026 Picture perfect. The drop, the timing, the throw, the catch, all of it. Chef’s kiss. According to CHGO’s Adam Jahns, Williams and Loveland hooked up on a 14-yard score with 20 seconds remaining in a two-minute situation drill. The duo also connected on a score in an early red zone period. Seeing Loveland and Williams have a big day together this early in camp is exciting and lends to Williams’ comments earlier this week about Loveland’s potential to become the No. 1 tight end in the league this season. “He can become the best tight end in the league. But stats, and us going out there and proving it, is what it is going to take, and to be able to do that, we’ve got to put in work. We’ve got to build a connection, hang out inside and outside the building, have tough conversations or have open communication throughout the year and throughout camp,” Williams said on Tuesday. Williams isn’t wrong. Loveland can absolutely become the league’s top tight end, and their budding chemistry will play a big role in that. As Luis pointed out on Friday, Williams had a 123.6 passer rating when targeting Loveland last season, completing 71.6 percent of the passes 84’s way. That’s a heck of a start. Seeing them build on that early in camp is awesome. I’ll address the elephant in the room in all of the pass-catching dialogue, briefly anyway. It was Burden on Wednesday and Thursday, and Loveland today. It’ll be Rome at some point. Kalif Raymond had a strong day this week, including a 54-yard touchdown. Zavion Thomas and Jahdae Walker will probably have days of their own as well. But when you consider the expectations for all of these pass-catchers breaking out this season and hanging near the top of their respective statistical leaderboards, you run into the “is there enough balls to go around” thought when trying to envision it. It’s a fair point. Ben Johnson’s offense will undoubtedly be balanced, to some degree. His commitment to the run game is real and necessary, so it’s not like we’re going to see Williams drop back 50 times per game. Williams only had north of 40 pass attempts once during the regular season last year (42 against San Francisco). At the end of the day, it’s a great problem to have, and I would encourage everyone to enjoy watching it play out. On that note, if Williams is going to be efficient as he has been during the first week of camp, there’s going to be more catches to go around. It took three practices for Williams to throw his first interception of camp, and it was Jaylon Johnson who snagged it. Before practice on Friday, Ben Johnson told reporters that Jaylon has had a “really good start” to camp. File that one away in the things you love to hear folder. Johnson continued (via Adam Jahns): “Happy with how he’s approaching his work right now,” Ben Johnson said. “He’s highly motivated to garner the respect that certainly I had for him when I came into the building, because he felt like last year was a disappointment. So he wants to get back to being on the upper echelon of cover corners in this league. You kind of see that approach.”Jaylon Johnson just had the first interception of Caleb Williams in Bears camp. Came in a red zone 7-on-7 drill.
— Adam Jahns (@adamjahns) July 31, 2026 It looked like a true competition at left tackle on Friday, with the Trib’s Brad Biggs calling the snap share “a revolving door” between Braxton Jones, Jedrick Wills Jr., and Kiran Amegadjie, with Amegadjie seeing the bulk of the first-team reps, Wills behind him, and the majority of Jones’ reps coming with the second and third-team units. Here’s what Jones had to say about the split today (and this week): “I assumed that it would be like that,” he said. “It is a competition at the end of the day. Regardless of that, wherever we’re put — ones, twos, threes — you’ve got to go perform and do your thing.” Left tackle may be a true competition right now, but right tackle certainly is not. That job belongs to Darnell Wright, and the only uncertainty there is in his future contract status, which Wright spoke about on Friday and didn’t seem too worried about:Darnell Wright Doesn't Seem Worried About Extension Talks t.co/dQvmy3u0xP

Running back Kyle Monangai was absent from practice for the second consecutive day. There’s been no explanation as to why Monangai isn’t on the field, and short of some bad news to come, there’s no reason to be concerned. Just worth mentioning. According to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin (via X), Salvon Ahmed received the snaps that Monangai would have gotten behind D’Andre Swift today.
