Police are investigating a possible double homicide that took place in suburban Harvey Thursday morning.
According to authorities, police were called to a residence for a “possible medical issue” just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
When officers arrived at the home near the intersection of Vine and 150th Street, they found two individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds.
Both of the individuals were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and a representative of the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, according to authorities.
In addition, two dogs were found with gunshot wounds in the residence. One of those dogs has died, while another was critically injured.
There appears to be no ongoing threat to the public according to police, and an investigation remains underway.
“I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of two lives in our community today,” Harvey Mayor Shirley Drewenski said in a statement. “On behalf of the City of Harvey, I extend my deepest condolences to the victims’ families and loved ones during this unimaginable time. Let me be clear: those responsible will be held accountable.”
