‘NCIS’ Star Eyes Return to CBS With New Detective Drama ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

An NCIS fan favorite could be heading back to CBS five years after saying goodbye to his long-running series.

Scott Bakula, who starred as Special Agent Dwayne Pride on NCIS: New Orleans, is set to headline and executive produce a new detective drama currently in early development at CBS, according to Deadline.

The still-untitled project is described as a high-concept detective procedural set in Los Angeles.

Michael Sussman, who co-created Perception, is writing and executive producing the series. His involvement also gives the potential new show a connection to another major chapter in Bakula’s career: Sussman previously worked as a writer-producer on Star Trek: Enterprise.

Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment is behind the project. If it moves forward, it would mark the independent studio’s first broadcast series after producing shows including The Librarians and Leverage.

Details about Bakula’s potential character are being kept largely under wraps, although Deadline reports that the role will be quite a “leap” from the character he played on NCIS: New Orleans, an apparent wink at Bakula’s beloved sci-fi series Quantum Leap.

Bakula, who turns 72 on Oct. 9, led NCIS: New Orleans throughout its seven-season run on CBS.

His character, Dwayne Cassius “King” Pride, was first introduced during a two-part NCIS backdoor pilot in 2014 before the spinoff premiered later that year.

The series followed the New Orleans-based NCIS team investigating cases involving military personnel in the region. It ultimately ran for 155 episodes before concluding in May 2021.

But Pride is only one of several television roles closely associated with Bakula.

He starred as Dr. Sam Beckett on Quantum Leap from 1989 to 1993, earning four consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and winning a Golden Globe for the role.

Bakula later took command of another major franchise as Capt. Jonathan Archer on Star Trek: Enterprise, which ran from 2001 to 2005.

His other television credits include Men of a Certain Age, Chuck, Looking, Desperate Housewives and Only Murders in the Building. He also received an Emmy nomination for his performance in HBO’s Behind the Candelabra.

The actor will next appear in Netflix’s upcoming hockey drama The Sticks.

Bakula’s prospective CBS return comes more than five years after NCIS: New Orleans aired its series finale. The new detective project remains in early development, so CBS has not yet ordered it to series or announced a potential premiere date.
