Lane Kiffin already gave his pseudo-apology this week at SEC Media Days in Tampa regarding how things went down last fall as he left Ole Miss and took the LSU job.
On Thursday, when Kiffin met with reporters during Media Days, he revealed that, yes, he now regrets his messy departure from Oxford as the Rebels were rampaging toward a College Football Playoff berth. Ole Miss got that berth and went all the way to the semifinals, without Kiffin, who had already transitioned to Baton Rouge.
Now, Lane Kiffin is fully focused on doing his new job, which involves getting the Tigers back into the SEC and national title discussions. In order to be fully focused on that challenge, Kiffin really needs to not hear the Ole Miss whispers from his new college football home. During a breakout session with reporters on Thursday at SEC Media Days, Kiffin revealed that the Ole Miss mess doesn’t come up within LSU circles.
“It’s not coach speak — I don’t give coach speak — I don’t deal with it at all,” Kiffin said to reporters on Thursday in Tampa. “I mean, recruits, families. I think, initially, people were saying that would be a big thing. They want to know how they’re coached. How do they fit into the program? What’s their NIL deal? I don’t ever get asked about that from recruits, from parents. From any of that. I think they come, they see what we’re doing.”
Kiffin is just thankful for a fresh start with fresh faces in a fresh place.
“And I think for recruits and recruits’ parents, I don’t think any of them don’t see why I did what I did,” Kiffin said. “I think they come and they see LSU. And they see what we’re doing at LSU, and they see the history of LSU and the power of LSU. It doesn’t even come up.”
While Kiffin will be trying to lift LSU to an SEC title, Tigers fans also have dreams of a berth in the College Football Playoff. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about LSU’s chances to be competing for a national championship with the best of the best teams in December (and maybe January):
