Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Romy Kirby from Palo Alto, California has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Columbia beginning in fall 2026.

“I am so beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Columbia University for the class of 2030. I would like to thank Coach Diana and Coach Demerae for everything they have done for me. GO LIONS!”

Kirby swims for Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics and just finished her senior year at Palo Alto High School. Back in May, she swam a lifetime best 54.86 100 back for the top seed going into finals at the CIF Central Coast Section Championships before she went on to swim a 54.91 for 2nd in the final. She also led the team’s 200 medley relay off in a personal best 26.29 50 backstroke.

Back in February, she was highlighted by a 7th place finish at Sectionals in Oceanside in the 200 backstroke as she touched in a 2:00.99, less than a second off her lifetime best 2:00.07 from April 2025.

Kirby’s Best SCY Times Are:

100 back: 54.86 200 back: 2:00.07

Kirby will make the trip to the east coast and arrive in New York City this fall as the Columbia women finished 7th out of eight teams at the 2026 Ivy League Championships. Ashley Hong led the team with 62 individual points including ‘A’ final appearances in both breaststroke events.

Based on her best times, Kirby would have made the ‘B’ final of the 100 back and the ‘C’ final of the 200 back. Columbia did not have any ‘A’ finalists in either backstroke events, and she would have been the highest finisher in the 100 back for the team. She brings medley relay potential as well as Jilly MacNamara was the team’s fastest 100 backstroker this past season with a 54.91 that she swam for 18th.

Kirby will arrive this fall as a member of the class of 2030 along with Audrey Schroeder, Mary Bao, Katie Shaps, Maebelle Stern, Brisa Gao, Angelina Lu, and Madeline Gau.
