Jolliffe Swimming Pool, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa SCM (25m) Meet Central SwimSwam Preview Day 1 Recap Day 2 Recap Results: Meet Mobile – SASC Swimming Champs (25m) PMBG 25Day three of the 2026 South African Short Course Championships unfolded from Pietermaritzburg, with Olympic champion Tatjana Smith (nee Schoenmaker) posting a solid result in the heats of the women’s 200m breast.
This morning, 29-year-old Smith stopped the clock at 2:23.27 to land lane four for the evening final, although the TUKS swimmer bypassed the main event.
That left Keira Van Herden to capture gold, registering a time of 2:28.22 to top the podium.
17-year-old Chanel Veldsman secured the silver medal in 2:29.21, with fellow 17-year-old Miela Banza bagging the bronze in 2:30.26.
Dune Coetzee topped the women’s 200m freestyle podium, turning in a time of 1:56.78. She beat her competitors by nearly 3 seconds, with Conre Van Schalkwyk turning in a time of 1:59.47 as the silver medalist, followed by Anhe Van As, who captured bronze in 2:00.75 tonight.
In the men’s 50m freestyle, it was Armand Landmann who got the job done, earning a gold medal-worthy performance of 21.39.
He registered the only time of the feld under the 22-second barrier.
On his performance, Landmann told the South African Swimming Federation, “I feel I was really hungry for the race, and I was super excited coming into the time trial because I knew, in the finals, I made a few mistakes that I could have fixed
“I’m glad I got the opportunity to do a time trial and fix those little things.”
Describing what those fixes were, the Pretoria teen added: “I focused more on keeping my head down and the tumble… Then coming back in the finals, I breathed four times in the 25m, and that’s really bad. But I fixed that this morning in the time trial.
“There are no words for me… I’m really excited.”
