During a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan spoke with investor and mathematician Eric Weinstein about legendary rock acts and the lasting impact of guitarist Eddie Van Halen. The podcast host did not hold back when discussing the influence of the iconic California rock band.
Rogan reflected on the group’s evolution after lead singer David Lee Roth left in 1985 and was replaced by Sammy Hagar. While he acknowledged the band's continued success, he said the music changed significantly from what many early fans had come to love.

The podcast host then shared his strongest praise for the band's original lineup.
Beyond praising the band as a whole, Rogan focused heavily on Eddie Van Halen's role in shaping modern guitar playing.
Van Halen was formed in Pasadena, California, in 1972 by brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen. The group's most famous lineup featured David Lee Roth on vocals, Michael Anthony on bass, Alex Van Halen on drums and Eddie Van Halen on guitar.
The album 1984 produced some of the band's biggest hits, including "Jump," which became Van Halen's only No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Although Rogan expressed a preference for the Roth-fronted version of the band, Van Halen continued to achieve major commercial success after Sammy Hagar joined.
Van Halen's final studio album, A Different Kind of Truth, arrived in 2012 and marked the return of Roth as lead singer. The record also featured Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie's son, on bass.
Despite the group's inactivity, Van Halen remains one of the best-selling rock bands in history, with more than 80 million records sold worldwide. The band's influence continues to be felt across rock and hard rock music decades after its formation.
