For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Sydney Wolbert, a finalist at the 2026 YMCA National Short Course Championships, has announced her commitment to swim for the University of Delaware beginning in the fall of 2026.
“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career, swimming Division 1 at the University of Delaware!! I would like to thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches for their endless support and help throughout this decision. Special shout to my dad/coach for the sacrifices he has made to get me to this point. I am so thankful for this opportunity from the UD coaching staff! GO BLUE HENS”
A senior at East Stroudsburg High School South in Pennsylvania, Wolbert currently trains year-round with Pocono Family YMCA and primarily specializes in fly, back and IM.
Wolbert is coming off of a strong short course season. At the 2025 Winter Junior Championship – East in December, she turned in a series of strong performances; she contested the 100 back (57.83), 100 fly (57.29) and 200 fly (2:07.11), logging a season-best time in each event.
At the YMCA Central District Championships in March, Wolbert posted two new lifetime best performances. She won the 500 free (5:13.35 – PB) and took 2nd in the 50 free (24.80 – SB) and 200 back (2:04.98 – PB), 3rd in the 100 breast (1:06.61 – SB), 6th in the 200 free (1:59.17) and 7th in the 100 free (53.84 – SB).
A few weeks later, Wolbert turned in another string of personal best performances at the PA YMCA State Championships. She snagged the runner-up spot in the 100 free (53.03 – PB) and 200 free (1:56.46) after posting a best time of 1:56.35 during the prelims of the 200 free. She also placed 4th in the 100 breast (1:06.74) and contested the 200 back (2:06.67) but opted out of a second swim in the latter.
Wolbert shined at the 2026 YMCA National Short Course Championship, earning a second swim in all four of her events. She placed 2nd in the 200 fly (2:00.81 – PB), 8th in the 100 fly (55.33 – PB), 9th in the 200 IM (2:03.89 – PB) and 17th in the 100 back (56.21 – SB).
Wolbert holds a whopping 27 team records with the Pocono Family YMCA Piranhas, including 19 short course records and eight long course records.

The Blue Hens sent one athlete, butterflyer Victoria Novinskiy, to compete at the 2026 NCAA Division I Women’s Championships, where she secured a 48th-place finish for Delaware overall.
Based on the results from this past season’s ASUN Championships, Wolbert would have landed in the ‘A’ final in the 100 fly, 200 fly and 200 IM, the ‘B’ final in the 100 back and the ‘C’ final in the 200 back and 400 IM, setting her up to be a key contributor right from the start. With Novinskiy graduating this spring, Wolbert is poised to be the Blue Hens’ fastest competitor in the 200 fly and 2nd-fastest competitor in the 100 fly next season, although that does not account for the other incoming freshmen.
Joining Wolbert in the pool this fall will be Shay Donovan, Gabby Elk, Sophie Fredericks, Mabel Zegowitz, Carolyne Jia, Kelsey McPeek, Olivia Auwarter, Lindsay Murtaugh and Cailin Maley, who should all make for strong training partners over their four years together.
