Adriana Contreras has been named an assistant coach for the University of Kentucky Swimming and Diving program after spending the last four seasons with the University of Nevada.
During Contreras’ time with Nevada, where she primarily worked with the IM and sprint groups and has served as the program’s recruiting coordinator since 2023, the program had four NCAA Championship qualifiers, set 10 school records, and produced 40 top-10 program performances. Last May, she was promoted to associate head coach with the Wolfpack.
“We are excited to welcome Adriana to BBN,” said head coach Bret Lundgaard in a press release from the University of Kentucky. “She has a proven track record of making a positive impact on every program and person she works with. Her energy, professionalism, work ethic, and passion for developing student-athletes will be tremendous assets to our team and the overall experience our athletes have at Kentucky.”

Contreras’ coaching history includes multiple stops at the Division I level and several seasons as a club coach.
Prior to Nevada, Contreras spent time coaching at the college level as a volunteer assistant coach at UC Davis (2021-2022), and time as an assistant coach at the University of Pacific (2018-2019), as well as the director of operations (2017-2018).
She was also the national group coach at DART Swimming from 2019 to 2022, mainly working as the sprint coach.
Contreras also contributes to USA Swimming’s Sports Medicine Committee.
“Adriana is someone who genuinely connects with people, builds trust, and elevates the environment around her,” Lundgaard said in the press release. We are thrilled to have her join our staff and are confident she will play an important role in the continued growth of our program and culture at Kentucky.”
Contreras joins a Kentucky program coming off a women’s 12th-place finish at the SEC Swimming and Diving Championships, while the men finished 8th.
The Wildcats sent nine men to the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, led by Levi Sandidge‘s 16 points (including a 3rd-place performance in the 1650 freestyle in 14:22.26) and rising senior Carson Hick, who scored 11 points (8th in the 1650 free in 14:39.66).
Kentucky also had four swimmers earn All-SEC honors this past season: Sandidge (2nd team), Dziugas Miskinis (freshman), Lysander Osman (freshman), and Falemana Tuufi (freshman).
