New York high school state finalist Claire Reed has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at Georgetown University beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Georgetown University!! I’d like to thank my family, friends, and coaches Carle, Michael, and Chris for their constant support in helping me reach this point. A junior at Pelham Memorial High School, Reed has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming and diving team since her freshman year. He also currently swims year-round with the Westchester Aquatic Club, where she specializes in breaststroke and IM.
Over the course of the 2025-26 season, Reed dropped over eight seconds in the 400 IM, over seven seconds in the 200 breast, nearly three seconds in the 100 breast, and about four and a half seconds in the 200 IM.
Reed represented Pelham Memorial at the NYSPHSAA Championships each of the past two seasons, cracking the top 20 for the first time this past year. She made the ‘A’ final in the 100 breast, touching fifth in 1:04.45, and the ‘B’ final of the 200 IM, finishing 13th in a lifetime best of 2:07.92, having already broken 1:05 for the first time earlier in the season with a 1:04.13.
After State, Reed continued lowering her personal bests across a series of club meets. She swam 4:29.50 in the 400 IM at the MR PAC Winter Classic in January, 2:05.52 and 2:17.50 in the 200 IM and 200 breast at the TYR Senior Mets Winter meet in February, and 1:03.13 at the Shamrock Showdown at the end of March.

Reed’s current lifetime bests would have placed sixth in the 100 breast, seventh in the 200 breast, and reached the ‘B’ final in both IMs, setting her up to be an immediate contributor with 15 months still to improve before arriving on campus.
On the team itself, Reed would have ranked first in both breaststrokes, fourth in the 200 IM, and fifth in the 400 IM this past season, though with recruiting for the 2026 and 2027 classes still ongoing and potential transfers in play, projections for the 2027-28 season are premature. Kiana Koechlin (1:03.58/2:18.96) is currently the only breaststroker committed to Hoyas’ for fall 2026.
Reed joins sprint freestyle/butterfly specialist Cecelia Russell as the only publicized commits in Georgetown’s class of 2031.
