The Cubs’ minor league squads took three out of their four matchups on Tuesday to open their respective series. Offense was the theme of the day across the board as all four teams put up six or more runs, but we also got a couple of stellar pitching performances as well. Let’s get to it.
Cubs Prospects Report | May 6, 2026
Triple-A Iowa Cubs
The lone loss of the day came from the Iowa Cubs as they dropped their series opener with the Columbus Clippers (Guardians) on Tuesday. Things started out on a promising note in the first inning for the Cubs when Pedro Ramirez gave them a 1-0 lead on a two-strike RBI single. But that 1-0 lead didn’t last too long. In the top of the third, with the score still 1-0, a pair of run-scoring singles gave Columbus a 3-1 lead. Then in the fourth, the Clippers added three more, boosting their lead to 6-1. All six runs were credited to starter Ty Blach, whose outing lasted just 3.2 innings.
After Columbus added another run in the fifth, the Cubs began their comeback attempt. In the bottom of the inning, BJ Murray belted a three-run homer, making it a 7-4 score. Then in the sixth, a Justin Dean triple brought home another pair of runs, and all of a sudden it was 7-6.
Unfortunately, that’s where the fun stopped for Iowa, though. The Clippers added a run in both the seventh and eighth innings, while the Cubs went down in order in the seventh, eighth, and ninth.

The Smokies used a fast start to cruise to a 10-4 win over the Birmingham Barons (White Sox) on Tuesday in this series opener. Jefferson Rojas started the scoring with a two-run blast in the first inning, making it a 2-0 ballgame. Then, in the second, it was Karson Simas’ turn, and he knocked his own two-run homer out of the park. After two innings, it was 4-0. But the Smokies weren’t done.
With one out and the bases loaded in the fourth, Carter Trice broke the game wide open with a bases-clearing triple, making it a 7-0 Knoxville lead. The score stayed that way until the top of the sixth when Birmingham attempted to come back with a four-run frame. But those were the only runs they’d score.
Jefferson Rojas helped the Smokies answer right back with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, and Andy Garriola followed that up with an RBI single of his own. In the eighth, Owen Ayers drove in the Smokies’ final run of the ballgame on another RBI single, and Knoxville took home a 10-4 win.

South Bend also cruised to an easy win on Tuesday in their opener against the Lansing Lugnuts (Athletics). The Cubs got on the board right away in the first with a pair of runs coming on a Ty Southisene double and a Cole Mathis groundout. Then, in the third, they added one more when Kane Kepley scored on a passed ball following a leadoff triple.
Lansing got one back in the top of the fourth, but in the bottom half, with a 3-1 lead, the Cubs broke the game wide open with a five-run frame. South Bend got RBI singles from Christian Olivo, Kade Snell, and Cole Mathis, plus a sacrifice fly from Southisene and a bases-loaded walk from Kane Kepley. In just a few minutes, the 3-1 lead became 8-1, and the Cubs went on cruise control from there, picking up one more run in the seventh on a Matt Halbach groundout.
On the mound, Cole Reynolds was very good in his three innings of work, allowing no base runners, no runs, and striking out five. Adam Stone allowed the lone Lansing run of the game, but he was also solid through three innings. Then, Nate Williams and Kenyi Perez combined for a relatively drama-free final three frames to pick up the win.

— South Bend Cubs (@SBCubs) May 5, 2026Low-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Pelicans came from behind to earn a 7-5 win over the Hickory Crawdads (Rangers) on Tuesday. Josiah Hartshorn got things going for Myrtle Beach early with an RBI double, making it 1-0 Pelicans right out of the gate in the top of the first, then Logan Poteet drove in another on a groundout. After Hickory picked up a run in the bottom half of the inning off David Bracho, and 2-1 was how the score would stay until the fourth.
In the top of the fourth, Hickory jumped out in the lead with one big swing of the bat – a three-run homer off Victor Zarraga – which made it 4-2. The Pelicans didn’t stay down long, though. They answered right back with a run in the fifth on an RBI single from Hartshorn, and two more in the sixth thanks to a Jose Escobar homer to put them up 5-4. In the eighth, Derniche Valdez added an insurance run on an RBI single of his own.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Crawdads made things a little interesting with an inside-the-park home run to cut the lead to just 6-5. However, Hartshorn came up big again with another RBI to push the lead back to two and help the Pelicans earn a hard-fought 7-5 win.
