IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — The Irondequoit Town Board unanimously voted to declare the 519 Plaza on East Ridge Road a public nuisance.
Irondequoit police said officers have responded to the plaza more than 600 times in 10 years for burglaries, criminal mischief and homicide. There was a deadly stabbing inside the now-closed Lush Resto Lounge in October.
The town is now taking action against the plaza’s owner, ZSL Realty. A panel including representatives from the town and police department already heard testimonies from plaza tenants and other town members.
Some businesses will be closed for the next few days as fire marshals and town inspectors spend the next few days determining whether businesses in the plaza are safe and legal.
Afterward, some businesses in the plaza will be required to have additional private security and town inspections.
Not every business in the plaza is considered a public nuisance. East Ridge Billiards, Signature Cigar and Smoke Collective and Oak Barrel Bar and Grill will have exceptions for these new requirements, if approved. Vast Variety salon has been added to that exemption list.
