Idris Elba has responded with a cryptic comment after finding an Instagram fan casting suggesting he should voice Tairn in Prime Video’s upcoming adaptation of Fourth Wing.
The acclaimed book series was already reported by Deadline to have found its leading stars in Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya. They are set to play the roles of Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson, with fans over the moon at the possible on-screen chemistry and similarities to their book counterparts.
Casting news hasn’t stopped fans from dreaming about which actors could make up the rest of the characters in Rebecca Yarros‘ romantasy novel. One Instagram account, @bookbitsclub, posted a reaction video to the casting and threw Elba’s name in as a “call to arms” to voice the role of Tairn.
Fans of the book would know that the dragon character comes into play during the book’s Threshing Day, a ritual for first-year cadets in the Riders Quadrant. The goal is for the cadets to connect with an unbonded dragon, or die trying. Tairn is known as one of the largest and most dangerous dragons who has no intention of choosing a rider.
During the event, Violet impresses the closed-off dragon when she protects another young dragon named Andarna. Fans for years have thought Elba’s notable deep voice would be a perfect match to voice the dragon on-screen.

“hi Mr. Idris Elba. Can you pls say ‘you do not have the right to burn what is mine,’ and then post it so we can relish it? Tysm” said one fan.
Another commented, “DRIS PLEASE DONT START I CANNOT HANDLE ANOTHER FANCAST OF MINE COMING TRUE RIGHT NOW.”
Many fans commented under his post that he would be perfect for the role and couldn’t contain their excitement. One fan even said, “please!!!! Do this for us book girlies!!! Your voice is literally what I imagined when reading!!!!”
Whether or not Elba is in talks to star in the Fourth Wing on-screen adaptation, fans will have to wait and see. Amazon MGM Studios gained rights to the Empyrean book series for TV development in 2023, but the series wasn’t greenlit until May 2026.
Lisa Joy joins as the director of the series premiere and executive producer. If the series is successful, Prime Video has two more novels to adapt: Iron Flame (2023) and Onyx Storm (2025). Yarros is currently working on the fourth untitled novel, with a fifth to follow.
