The 84-year-old music legend played his first show of the year over the weekend, kicking off the 2026 leg of his Rough and Rowdy Ways tour at the Orpheum Theater in Omaha, Nebraska, and there were plenty of surprises in store for audience members. According to Rolling Stone, in place of his usual grand piano was a small keyboard on the center of the stage. And while Dylan's previous Rough and Rowdy shows were electric, the icon chose to start this run with a rare acoustic set which not only included his first performance of “The Man in the Long Black Coat” since 2013 but his first ever live rendition of Eddie Cochran’s 1958 rockabilly hit “Nervous Breakdown.”While Dylan famously doesn't allow phones at his shows, someone did manage to capture an audio recording of the tune — much to the delight of fans.
"Wow, did not know that Bob Dylan would do this, he is full of surprises," one person wrote, with a second adding, "Oh my...Bob nailed it again! I am beyond grateful for him. I sleep better knowing he is still expressing himself freely!"
In addition to "Nervous Breakdown," Dylan's Omaha show included a variety of more predictable choices, including his standard Rough and Rowdy Ways opener, “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight," as well as “All Along the Watchtower,” “I Contain Multitudes," "Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” and a cover of Bo Diddley’s “I Can Tell," according to Ultimate Classic Rock.
Eddie Cochran's music has been covered by some of the biggest stars in rock
Known as a "rebel with a cause," Cochran's influential music career was cut short when the singer died following a car accident at the age of just 21 on April 17, 1960.
