Diamondbacks option RHP Kade Strowd, who was acquired in Blaze Alexander trade, to Triple-A Reno ...Middle East

Arizona Diamondbacks right-handed pitcher Kade Strowd, who was acquired in the Blaze Alexander trade to the Baltimore Orioles, has been optioned to the Triple-A Reno Aces, the team announced Friday.

The 6-foot-2 righty made eight appearances in Cactus League for Arizona, totaling a 10.57 ERA in 7.2 innings pitched. He struck out nine while conceding nine earned runs on 11 hits and five walks.

Strowd, 28, last pitched Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs, and it was his fifth outing giving up at least two earned runs (three on two hits in 0.2 innings).

Manager Torey Lovullo told reporters his lack of consistency was ultimately the reason for the move less than a week out from Opening Day.

“In my heart, and this is one thing I expressed to him, is that when he’s right, he’s one of our best pieces. And we want to see him back here as soon as possible,” Lovullo said. “He accepted that, and he knew that it wasn’t a great spring. But he’ll find his way. He’s going to be just fine.”

Strowd had a solid rookie campaign in 2025 for the Orioles behind a 1.71 ERA in 25 appearances. Unlike the recent rough patch in spring training, Strowd didn’t allow more than a run in any major league outing last season.

Alexander, who was shipped to Baltimore for Strowd and a pair of minor league players, will likely be the club’s second baseman on Opening Day as it is unclear if Jackson Holliday will be ready to go. Holliday, like D-backs outfielder Corbin Carroll, broke his right hamate bone and is working through rehab.
