ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Applications are now being accepted for the City of Rochester’s Summer Public Safety Internship Program.
The program is open to people ages 17-25 living in the city interested in a career in firefighting or 911 emergency telecommunications.
Each program starts in July and ends in August. At the end of the program, participants will be able to take the Civil Service exam for a firefighter trainee position in the Rochester Fire Department, or apply for a 911 telecommunications position in the Emergency Communications Department.
According to city officials, multiple graduates from the program each year have been successfully hired into full-time public safety jobs within the city.
Both programs include a balance of classrooms and hands-on learning from their chosen public safety career path. Interns are paid $17.81 per hour.
