ANTIOCH — An Antioch police officer shot a person while in a struggle with him inside a moving vehicle early Friday, police said.
The police shooting happened after officers responded about 5:15 a.m. to the 4500 block of Lone Tree Way for reports of a robbery in progress.

Bill Whitaker said the person who was shot is expected to survive. The officer also suffered minor injuries.
Police did not identify the officer who fired his gun or the other officer who was involved in the incident. They placed the officer who fired on paid administrative leave, per department policy.
They did not identify the suspect or say how old he is.
Whitaker said one officer shot at the suspect as he sped recklessly with the other officer trapped inside. He added that after being hit, the suspect got out of the car and ran away before being arrested a short time later. Officers aided him at the scene.
According to Whitaker, the person reporting the robbery as officers drove to the scene told them that a suspect was armed with a gun and had threatened a person with it. Whitaker said those officers confronted a suspect in a car who then rammed the car into an occupied patrol car.
At that point, another officer outside the car ended up inside it as he came to aid. Whitaker said the suspect continued to drive forward as the two struggled for control over each other and the car. The car eventually hit another patrol car and a nearby store.
