No. 6 Alabama soccer fell Sunday afternoon to unranked Mississippi State 1-0. This was Alabama’s last regular season game before the SEC tournament, which will take place from Nov. 8-15.
“It was a disappointing way to end the regular season, but I’m still very proud of what we’ve done so far,” said head coach Wes Hart. “We finished 14-4 overall and 7-3 in league play and had the second-best season in program history.”
The first half started out with three shots from Alabama and five from Mississippi State until the 25th minute, when Mississippi State defender Chiara Tappe sent one to the back of the net from a header off of a corner kick.
In the 26th minute, Alabama defender Avery Brown received a yellow card for persistent infringement.
After the yellow card, Alabama had only two more shots to finish the first half, and Mississippi State had four more.
“Credit to Mississippi State. They played hard today. They got the early goal on us and then sat back and defended,” Hart said.
In the second half, Alabama took one shot before Mississippi State forward Hailey Johnson received a yellow card in the 60th minute for persistent infringement.
After that, Alabama had seven more shots and Mississippi State had two more. The game ended with the score being 1-0.
This concluded Alabama’s regular season with the Crimson Tide taking seven SEC wins, the most since going 10-0 in 2022.
Alabama is the No. 3 seed in the SEC Tournament and will play the winner of the game between No. 6 Auburn and No. 11 LSU.
“We will take a few days off to rest and recover to get ready to make a run at the SEC Tournament title,” Hart said.
The Crimson Tide’s game is set for Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. CT in Pensacola, Florida.
