First Alert Weather: Tracking a Nor’easter, but just minor snow locally ...Middle East

News by : (News10NBC) -

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After a brief break from the cold, we’re headed back to a more wintry pattern starting this weekend. A stalled upper level trough/front overhead will focus some light snow showers right across the western New York region. Accumulations will remain light, with most areas seeing less than 1″ of snow. Towns north of Route 104 may see an inch or two throughout the day Saturday.

Then our attention turns to a developing coastal low. This Nor’easter will develop and strengthen rapidly on Sunday into Monday. This will be a big storm for the big cities along the coast, but it’ll be far enough away from us to limit our impact. That being said, we’ll see some light snow spreading westward into our region, with a couple more inches of snow Sunday into Monday. Overall accumulations will range from about 2-4″ for much of the area, with a 3-6″ accumulation in the higher terrain of the Finger Lakes, closer to the Lake Ontario shoreline, and also east of Lake Erie with the help of some lake enhancement.

Snow tapers on Monday, and we’ll be left with a chill to the air and a mostly cloudy sky on Tuesday. Another batch of light snow looks to pass through by Wednesday of next week, bringing another minor accumulation to the area.
