For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Ally Szakaly, a Swiss Army Knife Recruit out of Indiana, has announced her decision to swim and study at the University of Iowa for the next four years. Szakaly is a senior at Adams High School, and she trains with the Michiana Marlins Swim Club. The Hawkeyes jointly announced the signing with Szakaly on Instagram:

In Szakaly, Iowa picks up a well-rounded athlete that brings national level experience through the Winter Juniors meet. At the 2025 edition of that meet, she fired off a new personal best time in the 50 free (23.37), an strategically important event on the NCAA level.
Another sphere where Szakaly has shown her competitive edge is Indiana’s high school swimming scene. As a junior, Szakaly A-finaled twice, finished 6th in the 100 breast with a new PB of 1:03.50 after capturing 8th in 200 IM final with a 2:04.02.
This month, Szakaly displayed her backstroke talents, setting a new best time of 56.02 in the 100 distance of the stroke to place second at her high school sectionals meet. At that same meet, she added on more runner-up positions in the 50 free (23.92) and both the 200 medley and 400 free relays. In the latter relay, her 52.51 100 free lead-off marked another lifetime best.
Szakaly’s Best Times (SCY)
100 breast – 1:03.50 50 free – 23.37 200 IM – 2:03.14 50 back – 25.81 100 back – 56.02Szakaly’s ability to swim a variety of disciplines in a relay distance at an elite level make her valuable to Iowa. Her 1:03.50 100 breaststroke best would fit her in perfectly with a trio of 1:03-mids swum by current Hawkeye women (Olivia Swalley, Ella Jean Kelly, Emilie Mosner) at the Iowa Invitational this fall. The same time last season would rank Szakaly 2nd among Iowa swimmers, behind Swalley, a current junior. Swalley has earned an NCAA cut in the 400 IM, so the addition of 100 breaststroke depth in names such as Szakaly could free Swalley to fully pivot to the IM, as the two events compete on the same day.
The Hawkeye Women compete in the Power Four B1G conference, where they placed 14th in 2025. Looking at Szakaly’s best events, final-making times last season were 1:01.68 in the 100 breast, 1:59.66 in the 200 IM, 22.55 in the 50 free, and 53.97 in the 100 back.
In fall of 2026, Iowa will bring in five freshmen women from across the midwest, including Szakaly and fellow Indiana native Addison Carlile. Joining them will be Klare Pilger, Cheyenne Burroughs, and Yaya Nieckula.
